Mr. Frederick A. Wuori, 88, of San Antonio, died Saturday, July 12, 2003, in San Antonio.
He was born March 2, 1915, in Duluth, Minn., to Charles Frederick and Selma Kagas Wuori.
He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army as first lieutenant during World War II with the 45th Quartermasters Truck Battalion in the China, Burma and India theater of operations. He had the opportunity of to serve with “Merrill’s Marauders.” After his honorable discharge from the army, he became a member of the internal audit staff of United Nations Rehabilitation and Relief Act (UNRRA) and was sent to Paris. Upon completion of his duties with UNRRA, he entered Georgetown University and earned a master’s degree. He was a professor of economics at colleges in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Indiana and retired from Eastern New Mexico University in 1980.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. Wuori.
He is survived by a daughter, Ann Wuori Gonsalves (and husband, Stephen) of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Alison Marie, Chase Frederick and Nicholas Abraham, all of San Antonio; and a brother, Wendell Wuori and his family, Monnie Wuori, Jean Stoneberg and John Wuori, all of Minneapolis.
Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. (CDT) at Park Hill Cemetery in Duluth.
