Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Clovis.
Mrs. Maria Gomez, 74, of Clovis, died Friday at Laurel Ridge rest home.
Mrs. Gomez was born July 7, 1929, in Robstown, Texas, to Emilio and Maria Hernandez Bustos.
She married Abelardo Gomez on Sept. 14, 1947, in Brownsville, Texas, and came to Clovis with her husband eight years ago.
She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Roswell, where she was active in the Guadalupanas. She also was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Family members said she loved gardening and taking care of her grandchildren and her pets.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Alicia Gomez, and a brother, Erasamo Bustos.
She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Irma Sanchez (Alberto) of Clovis, Juanita Cortez (Valentin) of Clovis, Mary Alice Gomez of Roswell, and Consuela Marquez (Juan) of Clovis; one brother, Tomas Bustos of Vera Cruz, Mexico; four sisters, Francisca Cruz of Vera Cruz, Mexico, Maria Yocunda Garcia of Chicago, Mari Cruz Vicencio of Chicago, and Veronica Hernandez of Vera Cruz, Mexico. She also is survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers include Juan Marquez Jr., Abelardo Marquez, Adalberto Marquez, Gerardo Rubalcava, Ermie Gonzalez and T.J. Tapia. Honorary pallbearers include Alberto Sanchez, Valentin Cortez and Juan Marquez.
Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Father Sotero Sena will officiate services.
