Mrs. Lou Rackley, 71, of Portales, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at her home.
She was born on Jan. 25, 1932, in Portales, to Winnie May and A. Lott.
She grew up in Portales, Tatum and Rogers. She graduated from high school in Rogers in 1948. She married Hoss Rackley on Nov. 12, 1949, in Roswell. They settled in Portales in 1957. She was a licensed dry cleaner for many years. In 1960 she began working at Spic and Span Cleaners. Later she was employed at Rhoton Cleaners and College Cleaners, retiring in 1978. In more recent years she had worked part time at Oscar’s Boot Shop. Family members said she enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading, and was an avid fisherman. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ruth Scott and Patsy Rogers; and a great-grandchild.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Eddie Rackley (and wife, Marsha) of Kansas City, Mo. and Jimmy Rackley of Portales; five grandchildren, Teresa, Angela and Billy Jim Rackley, Deanna Downs and LaDonna Holt; five great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Billy Clyde Wooley of Roswell; a sister, Ruby Fay Wooley of Farmington; and two half-sisters, Peggy Gilman of Albuquerque and Martha Ivy of Hacienda Heights, Calif.
The Rev. Bill Bullock will officiate the services.
