Albertson’s hit by robber

Clovis police were looking for a man Thursday night after he was caught shoplifting a bottle of liquor from Albertson’s grocery store at 6:52 p.m. and escaped apprehension by claiming to have a knife.
Sgt. John Corley of the Clovis Police Department said the incident began as a shoplifting gone awry but is now being treated as an armed robbery.
“He took off without paying, and when they went to talk to him, he ran,” Corley said. “Several employees were outside and surrounded him in an attempt to apprehend him, but then he said, ‘I’ve got a knife.’ They went, ‘whoa,’ and let him go at that point.”
The man took the bottle with him, he said.
Corley said there were no injuries in the incident and no arrests had been made as of late Thursday evening.
