Mrs. Jeanetta Kerry Purcell, 80, of Portales, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at her home.
She was born on April 23, 1923, in Olustee, Jackson County, Okla., to Lena McAlpine Arnold and Ben Arnold.
She married Delbert Leland Purcell on Aug. 28, 1940, in Portales. They moved to Santa Ana, Calif. in 1953, and retired in Auburn, Calif. in 1974. She designed and hand made formal gowns, tailored suits and dresses for several years. She also worked in the May Company, South Coast Plaza, in Costa Mesa.
While she lived in Portales she worked at the Portales Peanut Mill. She was involved in numerous civic clubs.
She moved back to Portales in 2002.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John David, James Ezra and Clifford Berdie Arnold; three sisters, Georgia Brawley, Clura Nail and Anna Mae Beula Sweet Arnold; and her husband.
Survivors include a son, Rodney Gene Purcell of Oakboro, N.C.; a daughter, Vaughnceil Cohernour of Portales; two grandchildren, Kelly Scott Cohernour (and wife, Deby) of Albuquerque and Kimberly Kemmet (Kelly) of San Miguel, Calif; four great-grandchildren, Justin and Zachery Kemmet of California and Kelly Rene Cohernour and Justin Evans of New Mexico; a sister, Nellena Lee of Ruidoso; and many nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Walter Huber will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Santa Maria Cemetery in Santa Maria, Calif.
