Aimee Hilburn did a little bit of everything on the court, including helping a teammate reinsert a loose contact lens.

Fouled on the play that jarred her contact loose, Brittany Blackmon missed both free throws. But Hilburn rebounded the second miss, squeezed the ball off the backboard with a defender bodying her under the basket, and swished the ensuing free throw to complete the three-point play.

Hilburn wasn’t the only eye opener Saturday as Clovis put on an offensive clinic en route to a 86-52 whipping of Eldorado 86-52 in the second of back-to-back District 4-5A games at Rock Staubus Gym.

“We’re like sisters out there,” said Hilburn, a 5-foot-11 sophomore, who finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. “We just like to go out there and play basketball and have fun.”

Tori Quintana (six 3-pointers) and Brittany Blackmon led Clovis with 18 points each as the fourth-ranked Lady Wildcats (18-2, 2-0 in district) bumped their winning streak to 12 games with their highest scoring output of the season.

“What a game,” Clovis coach Miles Watters said. “It’s not that often when everybody steps up. We shot the ball well, we played great defense, we pushed the ball up the floor.”

Picking apart Eldorado’s press early and pushing the ball at every opportunity, the Lady Wildcats shot better than 70 percent from the field in the first half and finished the game converting 39-of-58 shots (67 percent) from the field.

“They did a great job of executing,” Eldorado coach Mike Huston said. “It didn’t really matter what we threw at them.
“I still think we’re a pretty good basketball team. but I don’t know if we’re in Clovis’ class.”

Senior Meagan Hines led Eldorado (2-3, 1-1) with 15 points and point guard Jackie Konitzer added nine.

Back-to-back three-point plays gave Eldorado the early edge at 10-8 three minutes into the fast-paced game, but Clovis answered with a 12-2 run that included 3-pointers by Quintana and Melissa Roberts and six points inside by senior Monique Walker, who finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Quintana’s third 3-pointer and her dish to Walker after beating the press gave Clovis a 41-18 lead midway through the second quarter.

“We haven’t seen many presses,” Watters said. “We might turn the ball over a few times but if we keep attacking it good things will happen.”
