Farwell (15-13) vs. Smyer
5 p.m. (MST) today at Littlefield HIgh School
How they got here: Farwell beat Springlake-Earth in a playoff after the teams finished tied for second at 7-3 in District 3-1A. Smyer beat Sundown in a playoff after the teams finished tied for first in District 4-1A at 9-1.
The scoop on Smyer: The Bobcats prefer a slow tempo and with 6-3 and 6-0 posts prefer to pound the ball inside, Farwell coach Doug Boyd said. Their guards are not as good they’ve been in the past, though.
The scoop on Farwell: The Lady Blue are making their sixth-straight playoff appearance, but have not advance passed the first round since winning the Class 2A state title in 2000. They lost to Smyer in the bi-district round in 2001 and 2002. Senior P Chelsea Myer leads Farwell in scoring at 11 points a game and adds 5 rebounds. Senior PG Hailey Grimes adds 8 points and 3 assists per outing.
Bottom line: Farwell needs to control the tempo by pressing and running at every opportunity.
Quotable: “We can’t slow down. We have to press them for 32 minutes and make the big girls get up and down the floor.” — Farwell coach Doug Boyd.
