WT outslugs Hounds in series finale

PORTALES — Lurking in the No. 6 and No. 7 spots, Trey Howell and Dan Moody combined for seven hits and drove in 10 runs, leading West Texas A&M to a 17-11 win over Eastern New Mexico on Monday in the final game of a rain-delayed three-game Lone Star Conference South series at Greyhound Field.

Moody collected two singles, a two-run double and a solo home run and Howell slapped three run-producing singles as West Texas (5-12, 2-6 South) left Portales with its first two LSC South wins.

The teams split a doubleheader Sunday.
West Texas, which led 12-1 after 5 1/2 innings, collected 19 hits off six Hounds pitchers and scored in all but two innings.

Designated hitter Matt Elliott and right fielder Boyd Erickson collected three hits each for Eastern (6-11, 2-4), which scored nine times in its final four at-bats.

Moore, Erickson and center fielder Joey Aguilar had doubles for Eastern.

James Sweatman even his record at 1-1, allowing nine hits and five runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Eastern starting pitcher Trevor Davis (1-4) took the loss.
