Arlene Heldt, 79, of Pequot Lakes, Minn., died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd, Minn.
She was born on July 30, 1925, in Minneapolis, to Ludvig and Anna Anderson.
She graduated from Pequot Lakes High School.
Wayne Heldt, 77, also of Pequot Lakes, died July 22, 2004 in Brainerd, Minn.
He was born on June 4, 1927, in Madison, Minn., to William and Ellen Heldt.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy for two years after graduating from high school.
Wayne and Arlene were married in Minneapolis on July 19, 1946. They moved to San Diego where Wayne worked as a police officer for 18 years. They returned to Minnesota where Wayne worked at Lino Lakes correctional facility. The couple owned and operated Y Store in Merrifield, Minn. from 1974 until 1977. After selling the store, Wayne sold real estate and operated a lawn care business. They were members of the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa, Minn. Arlene managed the food shelf there for several years.
They were preceded in death by their parents.
Survivors include their children, Stephanie Marquardt (and husband, Bob) of Pequot Lakes, Minn., Steve Heldt (Nancy) of San Diego and Craig Heldt (Rose) of Clovis; Wayne’s sister, Dell Arenz of San Diego; Arlene’s sisters, Shirley Wanchena of Isanti, Minn. and Kathleen Berscheit, of Golden Valley, Minn.; Arlene’s brother, Vic Anderson of Delano, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Rev. Kurt Wied officiated the services.
The burials were held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Camp Ripley. Military honors for Wayne were performed by Brainerd American Legion Post No. 255.
Arrangements were by Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter, Minn.
