The death of an Air Force dependent Friday at Cannon Air Force Base is being investigated internally by Air Force police, officials said.

Kimberly Susan Novak, 20, of Cannon Air Force Base, died Friday at her home on base.

She joined the Air Force in June of 2002 and was honorably discharged in August of this year. Her husband, Edward Novak II, is on active duty at Cannon, according to information provided by Muffley Funeral Home.

Officials said it is not uncommon for a formal investigation to take place after an Air Force dependent dies.

“Any time we have an active duty or dependent (die), the Air Force works hard to determine the cause and manner of death,” said Capt. Andre Kok of Cannon public affairs. “At this time there hasn’t been any findings in that investigation to speak of.”

State police and other area law enforcement officials said the case is out of their jurisdiction.
