Mrs. Jackie Hurley, 88, of Portales, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.

She was born on April 12, 1916, in Glen Rose, Texas, to Bessie and Frank Robinson.

Her family moved from Glen Rose to Floydada, Texas, where she lived until 1940. She married Bill Hurley on Oct. 15, 1940, in Lorenzo, Texas. They moved to Levelland, Texas. They moved to Portales in the late 1940s, bought a farm and a Super Dog Stand. They moved to California about four years later, where she worked in a drug store. They returned to their farm in 1956.

For a few years she worked in ladies wear at the local JC Penney Store. In 1959 she bought the Mode O’Day store which she operated until 1961. She worked at the Buccaneer Stamp Redemption Store until it closed. She worked at Tops and Bottoms until she retired in 1987.
She was a member of the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jesse Robinson; five sisters, Era Birchfield, Linnie Keeling, Iva Edgmon, Johnnie Starkey and Betty Jo McSwain; and by her husband, Bill Hurley, who died in 1987.

Survivors include two daughters, Ganeen White (and husband, Larry) of Lubbock and Kaylene Wooley (Billy) of Kingman, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Lisa Labourr (Larry), Rachel Lopez (Dennis), Jeff Southern, Tamra Shipman (Mike), and Jared Wooley (Tiffany Spangler); seven great-grandchildren, Crystal, D.J., Megan, and Brooke Lopez, Taylor Shipman, and Bode and Shaylee Wooley; and a sister, Winona Spiers of Arcata, Calif.

David Bennett will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Larry Labourr, Dennis and D.J. Lopez, Jeff Southern, Jared Wooley, and Bill Brown.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
