Vickie Woods Hoover, 67, of Rialto, Calif., died Jan. 5, 2005, in Fontana, Calif., after a short illness.

She was born on Nov. 12, 1938, in Melrose, to DeWitte and Lois Woods. She married Darnell Hoover on July 2, 1959, in Melrose. She graduated from Melrose High School in 1956. She earned a bachelor and master’s degree from the University of San Burnadino in California. She taught 27 years at Cypress Elementary School in California and was a teacher there at the time of her death. She was a member of Cappa Cappa Iota Sorority. She was active in her church and community. Family members said she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a dedicated teacher. Family members also said she was a great sister and a fun-loving person who lived life to the fullest. Family, friends, and fellow teachers gave her a standing ovation at the end of her service.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband; three children, DeEsta, Dawn and Troy; two grandchildren; two sisters, Tommie Skeen (Archie) and Edith Scharff of LeClair, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Laquita Stephens (Bill); a brother, Woodrow Woods of Hesperia, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
