CLUB NOTES:
Fairfield Extension Club
Fairfield Extension Club met at Betty Ingram’s home on April 8. Twelve members and one guest were in attendance. Minutes were read and approved along with the treasurer’s report. Vanneta Beach, Jean Hardin, Marie Wells won the door prizes. We all enjoyed a lunch of ham, potato casserole and vegetable relish tray and desserts.
We discussed the past membership event with the Red Hat Society. We learned there are five chapters in Clovis with three no longer accepting memberships because they are full.
We also met on March 25 at the extension building. There were 15 members in attendance. We discussed the upcoming membership event and the club decided to purchase all of the foods to be brought. Sharon Ragland and Mary Dell Brown and Ruby Jones won the door prizes. We had received correspondence from the Telecom Pioneers thanking us for the donation.
We will have our birthday celebration at the Rib Crib on May 13. Everyone is to bring a birthday gift for their secret pal.
Our next meeting is April 22 at Betty Grabowski’s with Marlene Essex as co-hostess.
Chaparral Extension Club
The Chaparral Extension Club met March 10 at the Extension Building. Jeanetta Mesner read “When I’m an Old Lady.” Roll call was answered with “somewhere you would like to go.” During the business meeting the council report was given, plans finalized for the membership dinner and plans for the next two months’ meetings were discussed.
After a Mexican meal hosted by Dorothy Bean and Dorris Bourlon the group assembled 100 pin cushion hats for the membership dinner that June Phillips and Jeanetta Mesner had embroidered the tops.
The second meeting was on March 30 when the Ranchvale club entertained us with a Mexican stick-up at the Extension Building. The room was decorated with Easter decorations. Each member of the Chaparral club receiving a decorated sugar Easter egg made by Amy Armenta. Following the meal and great fellowship the group played bingo. Winner received a gift brought by the Ranchvale members.
Curry County Republican Party
The Curry County Republican Party held its biennial organizational meeting and elected officers for 2005-2007. New officers are: chairman Rube Render, first vice chair Brett Johnson, second vice chair Greg Southard, treasurer Marjorie Render, secretary Shirley Swann.
The newly elected officers will also represent Curry County at the upcoming state central committee meeting in May 14 Albuquerque. Also elected as state central committee members were: Clint Harden, Anna Crook and Dennis Roch.
The County Republican Office, 111 East Sixth Street, Suite A, is open Monday through Friday to assist in voter education and registration. The phone number is 763-0658.
ENGAGEMENTS:
Craig/Marquez
Bryan and Carmen Craig of Clovis announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Jennifer Craig of Albuquerque to Juan Marquez, Jr., of Albuquerque, son of Juan and Connie Marquez of Clovis.
The couple will exchange vows in August 2006.
The bride-elect is a 2004 graduate of Clovis High School. She is employed at the Crabtree in Albuquerque.
The prospective groom is a 2004 graduate of Eastern New Mexico University. He is employed at Radio Shack in Albuquerque.
Bright/Howell
Larry Bright of Clovis and Edith Norris of Westport, Ind., announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Julie Bright to Matthew Howell, both of Duncan, Okla., son of Donald and Ruth Howell of Bartlesville, Okla.
The couple will exchange vows at 2 p.m. May 21, 2005, at Parkland Baptist Church in Clovis.
The reception will follow.
The bride-elect is a 2000 graduate of Clovis High School. She is employed at Battison Auto Center as a title clerk.
The prospective groom is a 2001 graduate of Oklahoma State University. He is employed at Halliurton in Oklahoma.
The ceremony and reception are open to friends and relatives.
ANNIVERSARIES:
Pro
Ruben and Marjorie Pro of Clovis will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2005 at South Padre Island, Texas.
The celebration will be hosted by family.
The couple was married April 23, 1955, in Pittsfield, Mass.They have four children and three grandchildren. He is retired from the Air Force. She is a housewife.

Local named to JCC fall dean’s list
Ashlee D. Spears of Clovis was named to Jackson Community College’s fall 2004 dean’s list. Those recognized for high academic achievement are full-time students who complete 12 or more credits during the semester with a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.
