Bert E. Connelly, 79, of Artesia, died Friday, May 27, 2005, at his home.
He was born on July 28, 1925, in Atoka, Okla., to Herbert and Edna Usher Connelly.
He married Joyce Byrum. He came to Artesia in March of 2005, from Bent. He was a former resident of Lovington and Cloudcroft. He was a retired production foreman for Hanson Petroleum. He was a member of Jackson Avenue Baptist Church in Lovington, a 32nd Degree Mason of the Lovington Masonic Lodge No. 46 where he had served as Worshipful Master, and DeMolay Dad. He served his country in World War II as a supervisor at Bremerton Washington State Shipyard, and was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Ted, and David Connelly; and five sisters, Helen Robertson, Mayola Taylor, Ida Richardson, Thelma Davis, and Dale Van Horn.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Steven Connelly (and wife, Linda) of Portales, Darrell Connelly (Cymantha) of Littleton, Colo., Kenneth Connelly (Ruth) of Katy, Texas, and Richard Connelly (DeAnne) of Artesia; a daughter, Cheryl Clarkson (Michael) of Aurora, Colo.; a brother, Bill Connelly of Grove Port, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandsons.
Cremation has taken place.
