The Clovis Wildcats keep scratching off wins in summer league play, as they swept Plainview, Texas, 8-1 and 5-2 Saturday in Texas to push their winning streak to 11 games.

Clovis coach Shane Leatherwood described his team’s play as “solid.”

“You win 11 in a row, you’re playing good,” he said of the team, which hasn’t lost since June 11. “You’re playing tough enough to win, that’s for sure.”

In the opener incoming senior Sean Cruce gave up two hits and one unearned run in a complete game.

Daniel Casarez was 2-for-4 while scoring two runs while Cade Wheeler went 2-for-3 with an RBI as Clovis jumped on Plainview with four runs in the second.

In the second game, Clovis took control early again with four more runs in the first, highlighted by Jared Romero’s two-run single.

Jared Powers was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Wheeler pitched six innings, giving up one earned run as Casarez came in to pick up the save.

“We’re proud of the boys right now,” Leatherwood said. “We hope to win number 12 and 13 on Wednesday.”

After a seven-game road trip, Clovis comes home to face District 4-5A rival Hobbs with a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
