American broke open a close game with an eight-run sixth and went on to a 17-10 victory Tuesday night over Roosevelt County in losers bracket play of the District 3 9-10-year-old Little League All-Star tournament at Dickenson Field.

Lorenzo Colmenero and Jarron Hill hit two-run doubles and Kordell Tindell added a two-run single in the sixth for American, which broke open a 9-7 game after falling behind 6-1 in the first inning.

American faces Zia, a 6-1 loser to Quay County in Tuesday’s winners bracket final at Tucumcari, in a 7 p.m. game today at Rotary Park in Portales. That winner will need to beat Quay twice to take the title in the double-elimination event.
