8/7 Police Blotter

Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

Police were dispatched Monday to a residence in the 2000 block of Axtell in response to a report of criminal sexual contact. Upon arrival, officers were told by the teenage female victim that she had awoken to find her mother’s boyfriend in her bed and that unwanted sexual contact had occurred.

The suspect was located in the home and transported to the Clovis Police Department for questioning.

Police responded July 30 to a report of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the 2000 block of Mitchell. An officer observed that the victim had a gunshot wound to his finger and had, by his admission, consumed at least two alcoholic beverages. The man stated that he had been “swabbing” his .380 pistol which had been pointed at the floor when it discharged, injuring him in the finger. No bullet holes were located in the residence, leading officers to believe that the weapon did discharge into the floor through the carpeting. The weapon was logged into evidence at the police department and the subject was issued a citation for negligent use of a deadly weapon.

Police were dispatched in the early morning hours of July 31 to the 2000 block of Prince St. in response to reports of a male suspect waving a weapon around outside of a business. Upon arrival, witnesses to the incident identified the suspect and gave officers the location of the weapon. According to report, the suspect had been standing near a vehicle from which he pulled a gun and began to dance around and wave it at bystanders. Upon being advised that he was to be detained, the suspect fled the scene, resulting in a foot pursuit that ended with his capture and subsequent arrest. The suspect was found to be in possession of marijuana and attempted to give a false identity on arrival to the detention center, resulting in additional charges.

Police were dispatched July 31 to the emergency room at Plains Regional Medical Center in response to a report of criminal sexual penetration of a minor. The male victim said he was visiting a family member and had gone into the home of a neighbor in the 1400 block of 11th St. After obtaining statements at the hospital, officers went to the home of the suspect and transported him for questioning.

No charges were filed at the time.
