One of the most dreaded times of the year is once again upon us: tax season, however, completing and filing tax forms can be painless, simple, and free at the Cannon Tax Office, which will open Jan. 26 through April 17.
The Tax Office is now located in the legal office building; 101 D. L. Ingram.
All active duty personnel, family members, retirees and federal civilian employees may have their federal and state income tax returns prepared for free.
Last year nearly 1,400 federal and more than 2,100 state returns were prepared, saving the Cannon community almost $270,000 in fees.
For individuals filing the 1040EZ form, walk-in hours are all day Jan. 26 and 27 and then 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays thereafter.
Individuals filing Forms 1040 or 1040A should call 784-7304 to schedule an appointment. Appointments can be made thoughout the tax season starting Jan. 26.
Taxpayers should bring military or civilian employee identification cards, social security cards, birth dates of taxpayers and dependents, W-2s, 1099s, investment income paperwork, powers of attorney (if applicable) and last year’s tax returns.
