A 16-year-old has been arrested for the shooting of Efrin Tapia, 15, who suffered a gunshot wound to his left forearm late Saturday night while walking on Main Street, according to a release from the Clovis Police Department.

A 16-year-old black male, whom police would not name, is charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, negligent use of a firearm, shooting at or from a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the case, Clovis Police Lt. James Schoeffel said.

Tapia told police he was shot near the Der Wienerschnitzel on Main Street after a confrontation with a black male, who later got into a white vehicle with three other black males, according to a police report.

Tapia told police he heard eight gunshots before realizing he had been shot, records show. Police reported finding two shell casings.

The investigation is ongoing and other arrests are possible, Schoeffel said.
