Star child care provider receives quarterly award

Excelling in family care standards earned Ms. Bonnie Gillespie honors as the Family Child Care Provider of the Quarter for October through December 2005.
Ms. Gillespie has been a licensed provider since September and has provided care in her home since October, she said.
Ms. Gillespie’s home is arranged for multi-age care, allowing her to care for a range of children from infants to school age.
Children at her house fill their days with an array of activities like painting, reading, coloring and baking, she said.
Mr. Jim Hernandez, 27th Services Squadron Family Child Care Coordinator, praised the child care Ms. Gillespie provides.
“She ensures the children have plenty of art materials, books, manipulative, and infant and toddler toys to keep them busy during the day,” said Mr. Hernandez. “Bonnie has excelled in all [of] the Family Child Care standards.”
Monthly health and safety inspections are required for all child care providers and Ms. Gillespie continues to receive outstanding reports on inspections, said Mr. Hernandez.
Going above and beyond her call of duty, Ms. Gillespie accommodates the parents of the children she cares for by providing full time, part time, evening and weekend care to meet their needs.
Children’s special needs are not overlooked, such as three therapists visiting her home to help one of the children with his delayed speech, said Ms. Gillespie.
Ms. Gillespie’s work with children is not a new endeavor. An experienced child care provider, she worked as a developmental provider at Dover Air Force Base, Del. for one year and Kadena Air Base, Japan for two years.
“Bonnie teaches children their numbers, letter recognition and colors through active play,” said Mr. Hernandez. “She is committed to helping each child develop to his/her fullest potential. She is sincere and comfortable with children and parents. Her integrity and character are above reproach.”
