A Clovis man was arrested early Friday morning for holding his 19-year-old girlfriend captive and assaulting her and a dog, according to Clovis Police Lt. James Schoeffel.
The arrest followed a three-hour-long hostage negotiation at victim’s residence at 1113 Prince St. The standoff ended about 4 a.m.
Police say Victor Apodaca, 37, bound the victim’s wrists, put a do collar around her neck and put her in a closet and cut her face multiple times with a knife, and stuck a syringe into her neck, according to a release from the Clovis police department.
They were arguing over drugs, police said.
The victim was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center with non-threatening injuries, the release said.
Following a phone conversation with his mother, Apodaca surrendered to police.
Apodaca is being held on a $52,000 bond at the Curry County Adult Detention Center felony charges of violating parole, first-degree kidnapping, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault plus misdemeanor, records show.
Police discovered Apodaca had also stabbed a dog in the home, according to the release.
The victim’s roommate told police Apodaca stabbed a dog and then threatened to kill the victim if she called police, the release said.
Apodaca and the victim had been dating a few weeks, Schoeffel said.
Apodaca faces at least 25 years in jail if convicted, said 9th Judicial Deputy District Attorney Fred Van Soelen.
