Rose, Alice

Alice Myrl Rose, 94, of Clovis died Friday, March 17, 2006, at Retirement Ranch.

She was born Jan. 21, 1912, on the family ranch near Snyder, Texas, to Homer and Lora Hutcherson Miller.

She spent her early childhood in Post, Texas. After her father’s death in 1919, the family moved to Crossroads, where her mother opened a grocery store and became the postmistress.

She married John Adna Saylor in May 1928. He died in August 1929.

She married Forrest W. Wade in 1932. In 1939, the family moved to Clovis, where they pursued various businesses until her husband’s death in 1962.

She moved to Ruidoso in 1969 and later married Claude Rose, a pharmacist. In 1985, they moved to Clovis to be near family when he became ill. He died in 1989.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Family members said her favorite activities were bowling, gardening, needlework, crafts and taking pictures of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, R.C. Miller.

She is survived by a daughter, LaVerne Smith (and husband, Rex) of Roswell; a son, Charles F. Wade (Jim Elyce) of Clovis; a sister, Bonnie Stoker of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren, Stephen W. Smith (MaryLou) of Fort Collins, Colo., Charles L. Smith (Julie) of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Cara Myrlene Carpenter of Clovis and Debbie Bracken (Clay) of Clovis; five great-grandchildren, Devin and Tristan Carpenter, Brianne Bracken, Matthew and Laurel Smith; and a great-great-grandchild, Matthew B. Smith.

Herbert Bergstrom and the Rev. Ran Loy will officiate services.

Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1501 Sycamore St. Clovis, NM 88101.

Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home in Clovis.
