Reporter’s notebook: District attorney, Plateau team up against domestic violence

The 9th Judicial District Attorney’s office and Plateau Wireless have joined together to give victims of domestic violence and abuse access to 911 through a program called “Donate a Lifeline.”

Plateau will donate used cell phones and wireless service permitting calls to 911 for victims of abuse and domestic violence, according to a press release from the district attorney’s office, which will distribute the phones.

“This partnership will give the battered and abused a peace of mind by knowing that perhaps for the first time help is only a phone call away,” District Attorney Matt Chandler said.

The public is encouraged to donate used cell phones. Chandler said three phones were received Wednesday from a citizen in Roswell who wanted to contribute.

Collection points are available. Donations can be made at the district attorney’s offices in both Clovis and Portales. For information contact the district attorney’s office at 769-2246.
