Police issue press release

Here is the text of the press release Clovis police issued on Friday afternoon in connection with Friday’s bank robbery:

On 07-14-2006 at about 11:00 a.m., Clovis Police Dispatch received a call reporting a Robbery and Bomb Threat at the New Mexico Bank and Trust located in the Hilltop Shopping Plaza at 21st St. and Main St. in Clovis.

Upon arrival the officers evacuated nearby businesses and conducted the investigation. The area of Hilltop Plaza was closed down to the public for approximately 2 hours so that officials could determine the area was safe.

Witnesses indicate that a white male subject entered the bank and indicated that he had a bomb and was carrying a box. The suspect fled the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of money leaving the box behind.

The suspect is described as a white male approximately 6 foot tall with dark hair wearing a cap, possibly with a blonde wig.

The initial response included officers from the Clovis Police Department, the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, agents with the District Attorney’s Office, the New Mexico State Police and Clovis Fire and Ambulance.

Cannon EOD responded to assist with the box that had been left behind and render the area safe.
