ROSWELL — The Clovis High girls held off Roswell Goddard for a half Tuesday night, but the roof finally fell in.

Goddard’s Kendra Jones broke a scoreless tie three minutes into the second half and the Lady Rockets went on to a 3-0 win, their second shutout of the Lady Wildcats in four days.

CHS goalkeeper Brittni Jimenez was credited with 10 saves, but the Lady Cats (4-6-2) couldn’t mount any offense against Goddard. They had no shots on goal in the match, coach Shane Leatherwood said.

“Brittni and the defense was really hanging on,” Leatherwood said of the first half. “When they finally broke through, it went downhill after that.”

Natasha Suri scored 13 minutes into the half, while Christine Young delivered the coup de grace with about two minutes left.

“(Jimenez) played well,” Leatherwood said. “This was her best game of the year.”

Goddard (8-7) blanked the Lady Cats 4-0 in Clovis on Saturday.

“We just couldn’t get anything going,” Leatherwood said. “They beat us to every ball.

“I saw them early in the year and I didn’t think they were very good, but they’re a much-improved team every time I see them.”

The Lady Cats won the junior varsity preliminary 2-1 on goals by Taisha Bosque and Caitlin Barnett.

Clovis plays at Roswell High on Saturday, then opens district play at Carlsbad on Tuesday.
