FORT SUMNER — Braeden and Cass Dimitroff combined for 212 yards of total offense, and the Fort Sumner Foxes held off an improbable comeback attempt from the visiting Jal Panthers to earn a 21-14 win and a repeat trip to the Class 1A championship.

The Foxes (8-4) scored the game’s first 21 points with touchdowns in each of the first three quarters, and looked to ice the game on a goal situation late in the fourth.

But the Panthers held the Foxes on a 4th and 6 with four minutes remaining and drove 67 yards in 11 plays. They got on the scoreboard with a 3-yard run by quarterback Zach Thomas.

The Foxes recovered the onside kick, but fumbled the ball away two plays later on their own 50. Thomas completed a 43-yard fade pass to Phillip Little, which set the stage for a 5-yard scoring pass to Zach Smith.

The Panthers recovered the onside kick with 42 seconds remaining, but were stopped on downs at their own 44 with 16 seconds left.

Berry Stinnett, Cass Dimitroff and Braeden Dimitroff all scored on rushing touchdowns for the Foxes.

In Class 2A, Santa Rosa defeated Texico 21-10 at Santa Rosa.
