Local Roundup: Thief escapes store with $25

A thief escaped from a local convenience store Thursday with $25 in change and a piece of his shirt missing, torn by a clerk trying to stop him, according to a police report.

A clerk at the Allsup’s North Prince Street store told police around 4 a.m. a man walked around the counter and grabbed three rolls of change, then jumped over the counter and dashed out the door, the report said.

She told the officer as the man jumped over the counter, she grabbed his shirt, tearing off a piece of fabric before he ran away.

He was described as a male in his late teens with a black T-shirt over a white shirt.

The incident was captured on video. The case is under investigation.
