“It was kind of an up-and-down day for everybody,” CHS boys coach Cal Fullerton summed up.

Fullerton noted that Best, an eighth-grader, made a hole-in-one on the 17th hole at Sierra Blanca during a practice round on Sunday.

Monday’s team scores on the girls were not available. CHS girls coach Cristy Hill said the Lady Wildcats were somewhere in the middle of the pack after shooting a four-person total of 436.

Senior Amanda Estes led the Lady Cats at 97, while Tiffany Reid shot 100, Marissa Lansford 113, Kolby Rains 126 and Danielle Vasquez 133.

The individual leader was Socorro’s Kayla Cline at 80, followed by Carlsbad’s Cree Hughes at 84 and three players — Laura Lipko of Alamogordo, Kaitlin Fields of Hobbs and Bianca Dominguez of Deming — at 85.

Both rounds of the girls tournament are being played at Cree Meadows Golf Course.
