ALBUQUERQUE — Clovis’ Heather Trujiilo and Marlon Wright were eliminated Friday in the first round of the Class 5A state tennis tournament.
Unseeded Amanda Kane of Onate knocked off the eighth-seeded Trujillo 6-4, 6-4.
Trujillo, and eighth-grader, qualified for state by finishing second in the District 4-5A tournament.
Meanwhile, No. 8 seed Mark Klett of Las Cruces downed Wright 6-0, 6-0.
Wright, a senior, finished third in the district tournament.
Trujillo and Wright were making their first state appearances.
