Clovis Municipal Schools will hold a public forum at 5:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss moving a portion of the elementary attendance zone from the Arts Academy at Bella Vista to Barry.

The Limited Elementary Attendance Re-zoning Public Forum will be held in the board room of the Clovis Municipal Schools Administration Building, 1009 Main St.

The rezoning was proposed by Superintendent Rhonda Seidenwurm to address future enrollment at the two schools.

While no residences are located in the rezoning area at this time, Seidenwurm said plans are under way for a development.

“It’s much easier to move a boundary when no one lives there,” she said.

The rezoning includes extending the zone for Barry south from 21st Street to be in line with 14th Street between Wheaton on the west and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on the east.

Seidenwurm said enrollment at the end of the 2006-07 school year at Barry was 285 students and 400 at Bella Vista. She said Barry can “easily accommodate” 400 students and has the grounds and infrastructure to meet the larger enrollment.

A 204-unit multi-family complex on 75 acres is planned for part of the rezoning area by Sahara Pointe, according to a spokesman.

Property manager Adam Warren said the soonest development would begin would be the first part of 2008.
