Clovis Community College officials are hoping to break ground soon on a new facility that will expand its medical program.
Tom Drake, assistant to the president for business and government affairs at CCC, said the new facility will be completed by October or November of next year. He added the facility will house the college’s nursing, radiological technology and emergency medical services programs,
“We’re in the preliminary design stage with floorplans completed and we’re looking at going to bid with the project in the fall of ’07,” he said.
The project is in the first phase of development, according to an e-mail from CCC Director of Marketing and Community Relations Lisa Spencer.
Phase one will conssts of about 16,000 square feet which will be used for classrooms, laboratories and testing, Spencer said in the e-mail.
Drake said the facility will be built near the college’s library. It will include three classrooms, a lecture hall, a multimedia lab, a computer testing lab and a nursing lab.”
Drake said the center will expand the college’s health science program.
“Those programs have existed for many years,” he said. “But in order to expand the programs, we need more space. We have the staff.
The issue with expanding the program in the past has been space. ”
The center will cost about $4.2 million, Drake said. The college recived $4.1 million from the state.
The facility is part of a five-year master plan and has been approved by the college’s board of trustees, Spencer wrote.
