Cannon Air Force Base wife Amanda Chastain recently won a first place ribbon in photography at the Curry County Fair.

The 27-year- old, who is a Fine Arts major at Clovis Community College, said this wasn’t the first time she has entered a county fair. “I entered the Santa Rosa County Fair in 1999 during my freshman year at Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Fla.,” she said. “My photography I teacher encouraged me to enter some of the photographs I had taken for the class. I took his advice and ended up winning a second place ribbon.”

Chastain said winning that first award sparked “a real interest in photography.”
“I really have a passion for capturing life’s fleeting moments,” Chastain said. “I love going to gardens and taking pictures of flowers.”

But these days, Chastain’s two children are her favorite subjects to photograph. A photograph featuring the dirt smudged fact of her son, Ethan netted her the blue ribbon at the Curry County Fair.

Chastain, wife of Cannon Senior Airman Beau Chastain, said she decided to enter the photography contest because she saw it as a way to share her art with others.

“It (Curry County Fair) was a lot of fun and I look forward to entering again next year,” Chastain said. “Right now photography is still just a hobby, but my dream is to one day own my portrait studio.”
