A former Roosevelt County deputy was sentenced to almost six years in prison Tuesday for failing to register as a sex offender and violating probation, according to a press release from the District Attorney’s office.

Raymond Gates, 49, must remain in prison until June 7, 2013, the release said.

Gates pleaded guilty to two counts sexual penetration of a minor in April 2005 and was placed on five years probation, the release said.

Gates did not register as a sex offender and fled the state, the release said. He was located in Wichita Falls, Texas, in June after his story aired on the national television show “America’s Most Wanted,” the release said.
