A 37-year-old Portales man was killed and another injured early Tuesday morning in a one-vehicle accident in southern Roosevelt County, according to a press release from the New Mexico State Police.
Juan Antonio Gutierrez-Porras, 37, was driving a Chevrolet Blazer north on Roosevelt Road U near U.S. 70 southeast of Portales when he lost control around 1:29 a.m., the press release said. The vehicle went into a skid and traveled into a dirt field, where it overturned one and a half times, ejecting Gutierrez-Porras and a passenger, Edwardo Montanez, 26, of Portales.
Porras was killed while Montanez escaped with injuries.
Neither was wearing a safety belt, the release said.
