Samplings of recent reports filed by Clovis-area law enforcement officers:

About noon Dec. 28 an officer responded to the emergency room at the hospital for a battery report.
A man said he was beaten up by a group of people he didn’t know while he walked in the area of 9th and Lea streets.
The man said a vehicle pulled up beside him and five subjects got out and beat him for several minutes.

About 7 p.m. Dec. 28 an officer responded to the emergency room at the hospital for an injured subject.
A man told the officer he shot himself in the hand accidentally when he was cleaning his gun.
Officers went to the man’s residence in the 100 block of Kimberly Lane to verify his story.
The gun was found where the man had described and a bullet hole was located indicating the projectile went through the wall of the home and into a field.

About 2 a.m. Dec. 29 an officer responded to the area of Tucker Circle and Manana Boulevard for shots fired.
Residents reported seeing a man go into his home holding a rifle. Officers found bullet casings in the yard of a home on Tucker Circle. They spoke with the resident, and he said he had a gun inside his home.
The man was arrested for negligent use of a firearm.

Around 7:30 p.m. Dec. 29 an officer responded to a home in the 600 block of Dawn Loop for a public affray report.
A woman said her 8-year-old son had been beaten up by some other boys.
The officer noted the boy had a small lump on his head.
The boy said he was playing football with some friends and they all started fighting each other.
The officer explained to the woman it seemed to be a case of boys being overzealous, and since her son admitted he was fighting too, it was not a case of battery but public affray.
The woman insisted he write a report and said she was taking her son to the hospital.
