Jaden Isler hit three free throws in the final minute as Clovis held on for a 74-73 win over Hobbs on Saturday in the boys District 4-5A tournament championship game.
Clovis beat Hobbs for the second time in three meetings in a matchup between the state’s top two ranked teams in 5A.
As district champions, the top-ranked Wildcats (26-1) will host a first-round state playoff game next Saturday in the 16-team tournament.
The New Mexico Activities Association will announce the state pairings at 2 p.m. today.
Hobbs had a chance to win the game, but Derrick Peterson’s jumper at the buzzer wasn’t close.
The Eagles (24-4) also qualifed for the state playoffs.
Clovis led 31-29 at halftime.
Hobbs beat Clovis 39-38 in the girls district championship game in Hobbs.
In the girls District 3-1A tournament final, Elida beat Melrose 56-35.
