CNJ staff photo: Liliana Castillo Seka Guhrke plans to get a degree in communications after graduating from CCC’s cosmetology program.
Seka Guhrke, a 23-year-old Clovis Community College student and married mother of two, has been selected to represent Curry County in the Mrs. New Mexico-America pageant in July.
The name game: Seka (pronounced see-kah) is the female version of her father’s name, Ceki. It’s Icelandic.
On the pageant: I think it’s important to represent married women. They do so much for their families and this is kind of their time to shine.
High school sweethearts: My husband and I have been married for two years, but we started dating in high school.
Superpower of choice: I would probably like to fly so I could visit people in other states, just bam. I could keep in touch with family, or magical house cleaning powers, like have it done in a split second. That would be perfect.
Dream destination: I would like to go to Italy. I’ve never been, but my dad was raised there and he always tells me good things about it.
Let’s dance: I like most music. I’m a big fan of the oldies, music that you can dance to. I like it all pretty much.
Career path: I’ll be graduating in May from the cosmetology program at CCC. But it’s just a stepping stone. After I graduate and start working with it, I’m going to be getting a degree in communications. I would love to be involved in making commercials or the news. I love the camera.
Changing focus: When I was little, I wanted to be a model. I had the photos done, but ended up having my first son, and my focus changed. He became my priority. I didn’t lose my dreams, I got new ones.
Role model: Overall, I like to lead by example, especially to my children. I want them to grow up to be the best they can be.
