Man injured when SUV crashes into bedroom

On 05/02/2008 at approximately 1:49 AM this morning, the Clovis Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the area of the 3000 block of Cesar Chavez Street in Clovis in reference to a motor vehicle versus a house crash with injuries. Upon arrival Officers found that a white in color late model Ford Explorer SUV driven by 33 year old Paul Lorenzo Apodaca of Clovis, New Mexico had struck a mailbox in front of 3024 Cesar Chavez upon leaving the roadway, then struck a large metal pipe in the front yard of 3028 Cesar Chavez, struck the southwest corner edge of the house at 3028 Cesar Chavez ripping the wall away from the garage, then went through the chain link fence separating 3028 Cesar Chavez and 3032 Cesar Chavez and then ran into the southeast bedroom of 3032 Cesar Chavez, where the victim, identified as 56 year old Michael Gallegos of Clovis, was lying in bed asleep and was hit by the Ford Explorer and catapulted out of his bed by the impact from the vehicle and knocked in to the homes hallway adjacent the bedroom, causing major internal and head injuries to Michael Gallegos. Clovis Fire Department Ambulance transported Michael Gallegos to Plains Regional Medical Center where he was air flighted to a Lubbock, Texas hospital trauma center where he was last known to be in stable condition with major injuries to his head (skull fracture), a broken back, collapsed lung and broken ribs he received in the crash. Michael Gallegos’s next of kin were notified of his condition and location in a Lubbock hospital.
