Baileigh Damron was among the 75 Zia Elementary School sixth-graders dunked in a dunking booth Thursday as the school’s annual rite of passage into junior high. The students have been taking part in the tradition for more than 13 years.
Dunking time: I’m kind of nervous. It’s a great honor to get to do it. I’ve seen it since I was little and I’ve always wanted to do it.
New school spirit: I’m a cheerleader and I plan to be a cheerleader at Yucca Middle School next year. I also want to be a cheerleader when I’m in high school. I like to show my school spirit through it and be there for my school.
Leaving: It’s gonna be weird not being here. I’m nervous but excited at the same time. I’m excited about going to a new school with new things to do. And making new friends. A lot of my friends now are going to Yucca too.
Non-fiction: I love reading non-fiction books. I have a lot of favorites, but I loved “Princess Diaries” when I read it in the fourth grade.
Summer time: I like to swim during the summer. It’s a whole lot of exercise and it makes me feel good after I’m done.
Memories: I’m going to miss my teacher Mrs. (Aundi) Curtis, and a lot of others. I’ll miss how she always makes us laugh and how she’s taught us so much.
Dream destination: If I could go anywhere, I’d go to Hawaii. It’s so tropical and hot. I like warm weather. I’ve never surfed but I’ve always wanted to.
