State Park officials recovered the body of a missing Fort Sumner man at Sumner Lake about 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to Fort Sumner Mayor and family friend Juan Chavez.

Josh Kenyon’s body surfaced about 600 yards from shore in roughly the same spot in which he disappeared Sunday evening while jet skiing, Chavez said. Park officials were conducting a search by boat when they spotted the body, Chavez said.

A 1999 Fort Sumner graduate, Kenyon was last seen around 6 p.m. Sunday in the northwest part of the lake. Witnesses told officials he was trying to get back on the jet ski when he went under the water.
