Timothy Williams can’t wait to meet his hero, Dale Earnhardt Jr.

But the 11-year-old said he hasn’t thought about what he’ll say to him when he meets NASCAR’s most popular driver.

“He keeps asking, ‘Is it time yet?’” said Timothy’s mom, Rhonda Williams.

Through the Kid’s Wish Network and donations from local organizations, Timothy and his family will travel to Atlanta, Ga., in October to meet Earnhardt.

Timothy, who watches races on TV with his father, Lawrence Williams, is drawn to racing by the speed.

“He gets upset when one of (the drivers) wrecks,” Lawrence said.

His favorite video games are racing games, Rhonda said.

Timothy was born with cystic fibrosis, a disease that clogs his lungs with thick, sticky mucus and prevents him from breaking down and absorbing food.

“He stays sick a lot,” Rhonda said.

During an extended hospital stay in February his older sister contacted the Kid’s Wish Network.

“She was real worried and she wanted to do something nice for him,” she said.

Despite his illness, Timothy likes playing sports, such as basketball and soccer, when he can.

Local organizations who helped raise money for Timothy’s trip include the El Desayuno Kiwanis Club, VFW Posts 3015 and 3280, the Eagles of Clovis and the Portales-Clovis Elks Lodge.
