The Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard railroad crossing will be closed until early this evening while BNSF Railway crews perform maintenance on the crossing, according to Interim Public Works Director Clint Bunch.
He said BNSF is fixing the crossing because of the expected increase in traffic after city officials indefinitely closed the Hull Street overpass on July 31 for safety reasons.
A state engineer said the 46-year-old railroad overpass could not handle a daily load of 4,300 vehicles.
The MLK crossing was closed Tuesday morning.
