Winners of the county clerk and county treasurer races said Tuesday they will update the county Web site to allow residents to perform tasks such as paying taxes or accessing public documents.

Republican county clerk candidate Coni Jo Lyman won 8,823 to 5,005 against opponent Cindy McDaniel, who ran on the Democratic ticket. Republican treasurer candidate Bernice Baker won 7,104 to 6,622 against Democrat Kathrynn Tate.

“I think 23 years of dedicated service spoke tonight and I’m going to do everything I can to keep their trust,” said Lyman who served as county treasurer from 1991 to 2001.

Baker, who won her first elected office Tuesday, said she was happy with the campaign she ran.

“The best part of the campaign is we both ran a clean race,” she said.

Lyman said she will be looking to purchase software next year for the county to post documents such as mortgages and death certificates on the county Web site.

“I think the people are ready to be able to do that, I think the county is ready to do that,” she said.
