A 24-year-old college student from New Laguna Pueblo was the latest to be arrested by the Curry County Sheriff’s Office for soliciting underage sex on the Internet.

Stuart Romero was arrested Sunday when he showed up in Clovis at a decoy house to have sex with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl, according a press release from the sheriff’s department.

Romero’s arrest marks more than a dozen Internet predator arrests in the last year by the sheriff’s department.

Last week, sheriff’s deputies arrested a 21-year-old Blanco man on similar charges.

According to the release:

• Romero had been talking over the Internet since October to an undercover agent he thought was a young girl.

• Romero told the agent he wanted to meet to have a sexual encounter and made arrangements to drive to Clovis before returning to college at New Mexico State University.

• Romero, who told the girl not to tell anyone because he was afraid of getting arrested, believed the girl’s parents were out of town for the day.

Romero is charged with child solicitation by electronic device and is being held on a $10,000 bond, jail officials said.
