A Clovis man and his stepfather were in stable but serious condition at a Lubbock Hospital Wednesday after stabbing and shooting each other, according to police.
Ricky Johnson, 45, suffered a gunshot wound to the head, while his stepfather Hezekiah Shirley, 61, received a stab wound to the neck.
Both men live in the same address at 1004N. Ross St.
Police said they found Johnson walking down Ross Street with a gunshot wound to the head.
Johnson told neighbors his father shot him, according to police.
Sherley was found inside the Ross Street house suffering a heavily bleeding stab wound to the right side of his neck.
Police said they were still piecing together what happened, but preliminary investigation revealed the two victims wounded to each other.
Police said a witness found at the scene stated Shirley and Johnson had been arguing a short time before the stabbing and shooting.
The victims were both transported by Clovis Fire Department Ambulance to Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, then air lifted to a Lubbock hospital for more intensive treatment.
“Both of them went through surgical procedures and they’re currently stable in serious condition,” said Clovis Police Chief Steve Sanders.
The Major Crimes Unit, consisting of the Clovis Police Department, Curry County Sheriff Office, Roosevelt County Sheriff Office and the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, was activated to assist the investigation.
Police are asking anyone with any information about the stabbing and shooting to contact Curry County Crime Stoppers at 575-763-7000 or the Clovis Police Department at 575-763-9470 or 575-769-1921.
