Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:
Around noon July 30 an officer responded to lobby of the police department for a report of embezzlement.
A woman said an employee at her Main Street business had taken money from the store.
The woman said two customers brought her canceled checks for purchases they had made at the store and showed where the employee had written her own name in the payee area.
The customers said the employee told them not to fill in the payee because they had a store stamp.
The value of the checks was more than $100.

About 8 p.m. July 30 an officer responded to the area of Grand and Beta for a report of children in the street.
A woman told the officer she found two boys wandering through an apartment complex.
The boys did not know where they lived and after speaking with residents in the area the officer was unable to locate their parents.
As the officer was leaving with the children, a crying woman approached his car and said they were her children.
She said she put the children to bed and went back to check on them and they were gone.
The officer called a social worker and after the mother was interviewed and her residence checked. The children were placed in the care of their grandmother until their mother could get help in caring for them.

About 8 p.m. July 31 an officer responded to a residence in the 400 block of Georgia for a battery.
A man said his neighbor was sitting on his porch becoming “loud and boisterous” and speaking to him in Spanish.
The man said he tried to tell the neighbor he didn’t understand him and the man walked off the porch and came over and punched him in the face, then started kicking him after he fell.
The officer noted the man had a bleeding cut over one eye.
The neighbor said he hit the man because he had been calling him derogatory names.
The officer noted intent to obtain an arrest warrant.

Around 8 p.m. Aug. 1 an officer responded to a business in the 1900 block of Prince Street for a report of shoplifting.
A manager said a woman had ordered a cake with decorations for a child’s second birthday.
When she picked up the cake, she grabbed it and ran out the door without paying, jumping into a waiting vehicle.
The officer located an address for the woman who ordered the cake and when he arrived, noted a large number of vehicles gathered for a birthday party.
The woman said there had been a misunderstanding and she thought the cake had already been paid for, and agreed to return and pay for the cake.
The officer issued the woman a citation for shoplifting.
