Sold out for the fifth year in a row, the Milk Lover’s Ball will take place Saturday night in Clovis.
Michelle Heavyside, President of the United Dairy Women, said the ball is a fundraiser to help three local children’s homes.
More than 500 tickets have been sold, she said.
In it’s fifth year, the ball has traditionally raised enough money for the United Dairy Women to provide about $20,000 in dairy products throughout the year to Portales’ Baptist Children’s Home and New Mexico Christian Children’s Home and Pippen Youth Ranch in Clovis.
Heavyside said she started the United Dairy Women when she realized how much faith-based children’s homes struggle.
“I realized that they’re struggling,” she said.
“If you’re a faith based charity, you receive no government help because religion is involved. They weren’t receiving government help but they were struggling to feed the children.”
Proceeds in excess of $20,000 are used to assist Eastern New Mexico Food Bank’s backpack program, which sends school children in need home with backpacks full of food.
The ball is a semi-formal event that includes dinner and dancing.
“It’s the one time that we can get out of the milk boots and get dressed up,” she said.
