A 23-year-old Clovis woman accused of trying to smuggle drugs into the Curry County jail faces multiple felony charges.

Jessica Barton is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, conspiracy to bring contraband into jail, possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia.

Undersheriff Wesley Waller said investigators learned Barton was involved in a plan to sneak drugs and tobacco into the jail and served a search warrant Thursday at her home in the 300 block of Grand Avenue.

Sheriff’s deputies and agents with the Region V Drug Task Force found a package of marijuana, rolling papers and tobacco at her home, Waller said.

Waller said charges are pending against the inmate who was the intended recipient of the contraband.

Barton is being held at the Curry County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $16,000 bond.
