Southwest Cheese in Clovis is once again world class.

Southwest Cheese took home gold, silver and bronze medals Thursday at the 2010 World Championship Cheese Contest in Madison, Wis.

The first place, or gold medal, was garnered in the colby cheese category. Southwest Cheese also took second in the colby category for a silver medal and third place for a bronze medal in the pepper jack flavored cheese.

“What that means is that we have produced excellent cheese from this facility,” said Brenda Miller, director of human resources at Southwest Cheese.

Miller said the company enters the contest every year.

Southwest Cheese was one of 2,300 cheesemakers from 20 different countries competing, according to a World Championship Cheese Contest press release.

In 2008, Southwest Cheese won first place in the same contest with a monterey jack cheese.

Last year, they won a gold medal for their monterey jack cheese in U.S. Championships.
