The city of Clovis announced Thursday it has hired Bill Bizzell to serve as parks and recreation director.

Bizzell is superintendent of Bovina schools and previously served as assistant principal of Clovis High School from 1989 to 1997, according to a press release.

He holds a master’s degree in physical education.

“We are very excited to have Mr. Bizzell join our team,” Clovis City Manager Joe Thomas said in a press release.

“Mr. Bizzell has the qualifications and experience necessary to move the city’s Parks and Recreation Department forward in a positive direction. With the growth we are experiencing in the community, the city is looking to expand recreational programs for residents and feel Mr. Bizzell will do a great job of moving that process forward.”

Thomas said Bizzell’s starting salary is $63,000 and is expected to begin working for the city May 17.

The previous director, Rob Carter, who left in for a national parks position in West Virginia, was being paid $68,685.
